Lost

She sat in the cold, dark hotel room and thought about the stupid things she had done in her life. There had been a lot of them for sure. Hate had been the root of most of them in the past…and love was the cause of the ones more recent ones, she knew. As she collapsed onto the bed, she felt like crying, but her tears had long ago run dry. She had nothing to do now but wallow in the sorrow and angst that had become her existence. Throughout the days of late, pain had become her only consistent companion; regret was closing in at a close second.

Everything, all of her heartache and suffering were hers alone to bear because she had caused them all. Because she had not known when she had a good thing…she had to go and ruin it, to want more than she really needed. She had been so starved for love, and when two men had offered, she had accepted both of their hearts and in return given them both hers. In the end, that had been her greatest mistake. Loving them both had ruined all three of them. Her anguish was not even what hurt her the most; it was the fact that both of the men she loved were hurting because of her. They hated each other for loving her and she hated herself for that.

If only she could see them again…see them and apologize, to somehow make both of them understand that they should lay all the blame on her and not on each other. She had seduced them both. She had made them lose track of what was important. And now she would never see either of them again. But…that shouldn't matter, not now. She had said her good-byes and did her best to repair what she had done. It was up to them to make things right between themselves and their family now. She knew that…didn't she?

 SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY

He knew it was wrong to miss her like this. He had come here to get away from these feelings that kept resurfacing. This was where he belonged, not with her. He had preached that to himself again and again…yet for some reason repetition hadn't made it any truer in the deepest parts of his heart and his soul.

He couldn’t deceive everyone like this anymore. He didn't want to. The only way to make things right was to tell the truth, and he was still lying. What had happened so long ago had not been a mistake any more than his forbidden feelings for her that still lingered on were. The only mistake was that things had gotten so far along before he came to this startlingly clear revelation. He loved her. He needed her. And he made up his mind at that very moment that he would not go on without her. In one fluidic moment, he shed his collar and his restriction and vowed to do whatever it took to get his love back.

  BACK TO HER…

She sat once in the dreary cell that had become her home sweet home in recent times again many lonesome nights later thinking of her pain and wanting to see him, hoping against all hope that somehow, some way, he would come to her. In her many sleepless nights since that fateful time she had arrived here, she had come to many conclusions about her life, both now and then, here and there. She knew who she loved; she knew in her heart which man she would be dreaming of for the rest of her life.

If only this had come to her before…she could have let him known what was truly in her heart, and they could have been together from the beginning…or at least from the end on out. She would have given anything for the chance to see him again, to tell him all of this…

Suddenly, she heard a knock at the door. Her heart pounded. Who could possibly be coming to see her? No one knew she was here… no one. If only…but she banished the idea. It couldn’t be; there was no way – no possible way that he could know where she was even if for some reason he were to come after her.

She opened the door to see who was there waiting for her…and met her destiny.
